The picturesque
town of Wimborne
Minster is situated
between the
rivers Stour
and Allen in
the beautiful
county of Dorset.
The town has
an ancient history
- Roman Soldiers
settled here
in the first
century and
archaeological
evidence suggests
that there have
been inhabitants
here since prehistoric
times. Cuthburga,
sister to Ina
King of Wessex,
built a nunnery
here in AD705
that at one
time housed
over 500 nuns.
The present
Minster stands
on the site
today.
Our town has
much to offer
the visitor.
Those of you
who love history
will be enchanted
by the buildings,
The Priest House
Museum, Kingston
Lacy House and
of course The
Minster. Wimborne
has a wide variety
of shopping
opportunities
and is home
to both stores
and independent
businesses.There
are plenty of
restaurants,
pubs and tea
rooms top choose
from and those
of you interested
in the arts
will enjoy our
galleries, Walford
Mill Craft Centre
and the 1930s
Tivoli Theatre.
.
Wimborne is
also a great
place for children
to enjoy including
the Model Town
and Gardens,
a 1/10th scale
version of Wimborne
in the 1950s.
We are sure
you will fall
in love with
our town and
find it a perfect
destination.
